I am a married, 41 yr old mother of a daughter that had osteopetrosis (OP), a very rare and fatal bone disorder in which the bones grow unchecked. She had to have a bone marrow transplant to cure the disorder in January of 2009; she's cured and doing remarkably well. The OP caused her to go blind, so now, as we wind down from medical trauma, we are learning what it means to raise a special needs child. The experience has been crucible in which we have learned what it means to truly stretch, grow, love, grieve, and thrive all in the face of great uncertainty. What a ride.
